More Than $2.9 Million Approved for Public Safety and Infrastructure Projects, Says Rasel

HARRISBURG - Rep. Brain Rasel (R-Westmoreland) today announced more than $2.9 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants will be coming back to the 56th Legislative District. The money will fund projects focused on public safety, infrastructure repairs and community improvements.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

Local Share Account grants are funded under Act 71 of 2004 and are used to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects.

“I’m happy these grants coming back into our communities will help local governments with the equipment and infrastructure they need to better serve the residents of the 56th,” Rasel said. “I appreciated the collaboration with Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) to secure the funding.”

The funding approved includes:
• Irwin Borough - $500,000, on behalf of the Irwin Fire Department, to purchase a new fire truck.

• Manor Borough - $250,000, on behalf of the Manor Volunteer Fire Department, to purchase a new fire engine.

• North Huntington Township - $600,000, on behalf of the Circleville Fire Department, to resurface the parking lot at the department’s station. (Funding advocated jointly with Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland)).

• North Huntington Township - $665,000 to replace the covered bridge at the Kindra Dam and make related improvements to the streambank and lake within Indian Lake Park.

• North Irwin Borough - $47,187 for a water mitigation system project to help with flooding issues on First Street between Lincoln Avenue and Webster Avenue.

• Penn Township - $500,000 to replace the Saunders Station Road bridge.

• Tafford Borough - $100,000 to install new water pipes and fire sprinkler system at the Department of Public Works building.

• Tafford Borough - $273,247 to pave East Edgewood Avenue from cul-de-sac to cul-de-sac.

The CFA is an independent agency responsible for administering state investments that support Pennsylvania’s economic growth and community development.
